MEET OUR 2025 HONOREE
MARK LAYNE
Mark Layne (Martel Ardoin, Jr.) was born in Mamou, Louisiana, and now lives in Lake Cove. He has been a familiar voice at KVPI since 1971. He initially entered radio dreaming of playing rock ’n’ roll, not Cajun French music, but everything changed when he began broadcasting from Fred’s Lounge, surrounded by live Cajun bands and the sounds of his heritage.
With encouragement from mentors like Jim Soileau, Mark embraced Cajun French, coding between languages on air, and helping KVPI become a rare station that still airs news, obituaries, a swap shop, and La Tasse de Café in French. In recognition of that commitment, KVPI earned the prestigious “Uniquely Louisiana” award for its French-language programming. After more than five decades, Mark continues to champion Cajun culture one broadcast at a time.
Congratulations, Mark! We are proud to honor your dedication and legacy at Le Grand Hoorah 2025!
